Jay Leno Gives Candid Interview to 60 Minutes on Losing The Tonight Show and the Future Ahead

Sunday evening’s 60 Minutes featured Steve Kroft coming full-circle with Tonight Show host Jay Leno, interviewing him 22 years after he first talked to him around the time of his late-night debut. This time, the pair discussed Leno’s exit from NBC’s lineup and revisit his tumultuous relationship with the network and Conan O’Brien.

Among the highlights: Leno and his wife claim everyone’s got Conan-Gate all wrong, and he was painted as the bad guy even though he had no idea NBC was going to renege on Conan; Leno confesses he feels no ill will towards Fallon and admits how, at 64 years old, he is becoming less able to keep up with new media trends; and Leno declares that he is not going to start a late-night show on a competing network.

If anything, he joked at one point, he’d be open to hosting a series on the History Channel.
