JD Vance Vows to Block Biden’s Federal Judicial Nominees Following Trump’s Criminal Conviction In New York

Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) vowed to block all of President Joe Biden’s federal judicial nominees because of Donald Trump’s criminal conviction in New York.

Earlier this week, Vance announced he is leading a group of GOP senators in blocking the fast-tracking of Biden’s judicial nominees and U.S. attorney nominations due to the “current administration’s persecution” of the former president.

Last month, Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records relating to hush money payments to Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election. Members of the Biden White House were not involved and the case was led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Moreover, Trump also faces three other separate criminal indictments for his handling of classified material and attempting to overturn the last presidential election. Vance did not state if he would also block judicial nominees if Trump were found guilty in those cases.

Vance joined Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner for an interview on Friday, where he claimed Biden is “engaging in lawfare” by “using the federal government to destroy” his political opponents.

FAULKNER: What is the strategy with this in terms of what your goal is?

VANCE: Well, there are two basic ideas here. So the first is that we can’t reward the Biden administration for engaging in lawfare, not just against Donald Trump. They’ve weaponized the government against a whole host of conservatives. That’s unacceptable. And we’re basically sort of offering an alternative here. We’re saying, look, if you guys would allow these nominations to sail through, you need to stop. And effectively using the federal government to destroy your political opponents.

The second thing that we’re trying to do is just deny Joe Biden some footsoldiers that he has showed he will use to go after his political opposition. And just to recap, this is, I think, one of the most fundamental elements of American democracy is that we fight over elections. We try to persuade voters to elect us. And whatever the whenever the dust clears, however, the voters decide. You don’t try to use the power of the state to throw your opponents in jail. You try to beat them at the ballot box. And the failure to follow that principle over the last few years from the Biden administration, I think, really threatens the foundation of our country. Republicans just have to push back against it.
