Jeff Toobin Reacts to Report Trump’s Being Investigated for Obstruction: ‘I Told You So’

On Wednesday, CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin played up The Washington Post‘s report that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is reportedly investigating President Donald Trump for possible obstruction of justice.

“It’s a huge deal, and I don’t hate to tell you that I told you so,” Toobin said on Anderson Cooper 360. “When you listen James Comey‘s testimony about how the President tried to get him to drop the investigation; and then, you see that he fired Comey when he didn’t drop the investigation, that is evidence of obstruction of justice.”

The CNN legal analyst continued by outlining that “when you combine it with the apparent…conversations between Trump and the director of national intelligence — the director of the NSA — trying to stop this investigation in other ways, that’s worth investigating someone for obstruction of justice.”

Toobin then emphasized that “it doesn’t mean that Trump is guilty. It doesn’t mean there’s going to be an indictment an impeachment or anything like that.” He added, however, that “there is clearly evidence that justifies an investigation; and this tremendous scoop by The Washington Post just makes clear that Mueller is doing his job. And we’ll see how it goes.”

A week earlier, the CNN pundit reacting to former Director Comey’s prepared opening statement about his reported conversation with President Trump about former General Michael Flynn by asserting, “If that isn’t obstruction of justice, I don’t know what is.”
