Jen Psaki Has One-Word Answer to Explain Blockbuster July Jobs Report: ‘Vaccinations’
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki primarily attributed the United States’ encouraging new job numbers to coronavirus vaccines.
As Psaki held a White House press briefing on Friday, she faced questions about the July jobs report indicating nearly a million jobs were added to the economy last month.
ABC News’ Elizabeth Schulze asked Psaki whether the Biden administration acknowledges that these numbers could have something to do with more people returning to the work force because unemployment benefits have expired in some areas of the country.
Psaki answered that the White House hasn’t seen any data yet suggesting that had “any impact” on the new jobs numbers.
“We are seeing strength across the economy and across states and regions,” she said, “but that’s thanks to a number of investments that have helped get people through this difficult time and get them back to work. We know there’s more that needs to happen, but we have not seen evidence of that data to date.”
Schulze asked Psaki what she thinks is mainly responsible for the jobs data, and she got a one word answer back: “vaccinations.”
