Jesse Watters Calls for Matthew Dowd To ‘Be Fired Immediately’ After MSNBC Analyst Blames Charlie Kirk for His Own Killing

Fox News host Jesse Watters called for MSNBC senior political analyst Matthew Dowd to be “fired immediately” on Wednesday after Dowd blamed Charlie Kirk for his own killing live on-air.

“Dowd should be fired immediately,” declared Watters, adding:

I expect him to be terminated within 24 hours. You can’t say Charlie deserved to die. Just can’t say that, and I hope he loses his job. It’s dangerous, Greg. That’s the message. It’s dangerous to open your mouth, so shut it. That’s the message they’re sending, and they usually send messages to the politicians, whether it’s Trump, JFK, Reagan, whatever. Or John Lennon, you know? Take a shot at the biggest star in the world.

He continued, “They took a shot at Charlie to tell you it’s dangerous to speak your mind, and that’s the message, and you can either take that message and then go crawl into a corner and shut up, or you could do what Charlie would want to do and speak louder, and speak even more clear, to more people, as much as you possibly can.”

Dowd sparked uproar after he victim-blamed Kirk for his own shooting just moments after the Turning Point USA founder was shot and killed during an event at Utah Valley University.

After bizarrely suggesting that the shooting could have been the result of a Kirk supporter firing “his gun off in celebration,” Dowd went on to blame Kirk for his own assassination.

“He’s been one of the most divisive, especially divisive younger figures in this, who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech, or sort of aimed at certain groups,” said Dowd. “And I always go back to hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions.”

He continued, “You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have, and then saying these awful words, and then not expect awful actions to take place. And that’s the unfortunate environment we are in.”

MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler issued an apology for Dowd’s remarks in a statement on Wednesday evening, calling them “inappropriate, insensitive, and unacceptable.”

“During our breaking news coverage of the shooting of Charlie Kirk, Matthew Dowd made comments that were inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable,” she said. “We apologize for his statements, as has he. There is no place for violence in America, political or otherwise.”

Dowd also issued an apology for his remarks, writing in a social media post, “My thoughts & prayers are w/ the family and friends of Charlie Kirk. On an earlier appearance on MSNBC I was asked a question on the environment we are in. I apologize for my tone and words. Let me be clear, I in no way intended for my comments to blame Kirk for this horrendous attack. Let us all come together and condemn violence of any kind.”
