Speaker Boehner: This Isn’t Over, We Want to Conference With Senate

Following a vote on the House floor to conference with the Senate (which is in recess until 9:30 A.M.), Speaker John Boehner held a brief presser addressing the government shutdown. Flanked by other Republican leaders, Boehner said “the House has made its position known very clearly,” calling on the Senate to accept its offer for a conference between both chambers to has things out.

Boehner maintained, “We believe that we should fund the government, and we think there ought to be basic fairness for all Americans under Obamacare.”

Boehner took exactly two questions, one on whether he would allow a clean continuing resolution without Obamacare delay language, and another on what message he has for furloughed government employees. Boehner simply reiterated he hopes the Senate takes their offer and the House’s desire for “basic fairness” under Obamacare.
