John Fetterman Mercilessly Booed in Absentia at ‘No Kings’ Rally in Pennsylvania

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) was booed when his name was invoked at a rally in his home state on Saturday.

Thousands of protests against the Trump administration were held around the country in what were billed as “No Kings” demonstrations, a reference to President Donald Trump’s heavy-handed approach to governing in his second term. The protests come amid the ongoing raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to arrest and deport undocumented immigrants. The latest direct action comes on the heels of other protests, particularly in Southern California, in response to a series of ICE raids in Los Angeles, where Trump has deployed soldiers over the objections of state and local leaders.

“Now, this is not a rally for one party,” Leah Greenberg, the cofounder of the progressive nonprofit Indivisible told the “No Kings” crowd. “We’ve got Democrats here today. We’ve got Republicans and independents here today. We are looking to the leaders who will fight for us because even today, there are folks among the Democratic Party who think we should roll over and play dead. Anyone seen John Fetterman here today?”

The mere mention of the senator’s name elicited a loud round of boos. She also mentioned Trump’s military parade in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, which is the president’s birthday, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. The president said this week that any protesters at the parade would be met with “very big force.”

Fetterman has rankled progressives over his support for Israel’s ongoing invasion of Gaza. The senator has said that the protests against ICE help Trump.

“We’re not looking to politicians to save us, because we have been disappointed before,” she continued. “We are looking to each other.”
