John Heilemann: Trump Lawyers Fear POTUS ‘Has Lost Track with Reality’
Have you heard about Bob Woodward’s new book? Lots of interesting stuff in the White House tell-all, little of which paints President Donald Trump. Much of which, however, makes for excellent cable news fodder. Take for example the story of Trump’s former personal lawyer John Dowd, who reportedly feared a Mueller sit-down with the Commander in Chief (under oath) for fear it would lead to perjury.
Morning Joe found this an excellent story to dissect as it reinforces much of what the co-hosts and regular panelists (and a nation of critical thinkers in general) appear to be true. But it was John Heilemann who provided the perfect Mediaite headline (congrats John!) when he suggested that Trump’s personal lawyers see POTUS as a “pathological liar” who has “lost track with reality.” As such, testifying under oath would be a VERY bad idea.
Heilemann suggested the specific thinking:
The other thing they could think, that he’s a pathological liar and that he will lie, regardless what his mental state is or intellectual capacity is, the president will commit perjury. The facts are bad, truth is bad. He will avoid the truth or doesn’t know what the truth is, you suggested a second ago. Not that he’s dumb. In the minds of the lawyers, but that he’s lost track of reality one way or the other. Some of those things, some combination of those things are clearly what his lawyers think. All of this lawyers think it would be a mistake for him to sit in front of Bob Mueller and his team.
