Ohio Governor John Kasich publicly denied today that the rumored unity ticket between him and Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper is going to be a thing.
With President Trump‘s popularity beginning to drop, many have wondered about potential Republican primary challenges in 2020, but last week brought us the rumored Kasich-Hickenlooper unity ticket, with one Republican and one Democrat coming together on the ballot.
Kasich told Chuck Todd that’s not happening, saying, “First off all, you couldn’t pronounce it. And secondly, you couldn’t fit it on a bumper sticker.”
When Todd pointed out that’s not technically a denial, Kasich said, “The answer is no.”
Hickenlooper similarly denied it on Friday:
1/3 Odd & funny that people expect a political marriage when 2 people from different parties work together…

2/3 Kasich is dapper & worldly, but knows nada about brewing beer. Loving the attention on our bipartisan work…

3/3 …but no ulterior motive. Not a unity ticket, just working with a new friend on hard compromises.
