Jon Stewart Regrets Not Being Tougher on Donald Rumsfeld
Jon Stewart has occasionally been candid in looking back on his interviews (saying Hugh Grant was his worst guest of all-time, for one), but last night Stewart got introspective with Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss and admitted he has a great deal of regret about how he approached his big interview with Donald Rumsfeld.
Back in 2011, Stewart faced off with the former Defense Secretary over the Iraq War and how the Bush administration artificially created momentum to get the U.S. into that conflict. Stewart wasn’t exactly that successful in nailing Rumsfeld on Iraq, though.
And so, last night, Stewart went on quite the tangent during his interview with Moss. He explained someone in the audience asked him about his most regretful interview. The Rumsfeld one rocketed to the top, because, as Stewart explained, “he started a war for no reason and lied a lot about it… and I thought like I’ll nail him… but I didn’t.”
