Kamala Harris Refuses To Name ‘Leader’ of Democratic Party as Colbert Presses Former VP

Former Vice President Kamala Harris refused to name a single “leader” of the Democratic Party as Stephen Colbert pressed for an answer.

Harris appeared with Colbert on The Late Show shortly after announcing her book 107 Days, which is focused on her short and unsuccessful presidential campaign.

At the end of the Late Show interview, Colbert asked Harris who she feels is currently leading the party.

“There are lots of leaders,” the former vice president said.

“There’s generally a leader of the Democratic Party. Who comes to mind?” Colbert pressed further.

Harris argued that discussions around one person leading the party are a “mistake.”

“I think there are a lot of – I’m not going to go through names because then I’m going to leave somebody out and then I’m going to hear about it,” she said. “But let me say this: I think it is a mistake for us who want us to figure out how to get out and through this and get out of it to put it on the shoulders of any one person. It’s really on all of our shoulders. It really is.”

Harris’s appearance with Colbert followed her announcement that she will not run for governor of California as questions about her political future loom.

The interview also follows the announcement that Colbert’s show will end in the coming months. The cancellation came amidst a merger between Paramount and Skydance and followed Paramount settling a lawsuit with Trump. Colbert has blasted Paramount on his show, calling the settlement a “big fat bribe.”
