White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt mocked reporters covering the White House and claimed they are “having a hard time” with how much “fun” President Donald Trump and the members of his administration are having.

On the Ruthless podcast on Thursday, Leavitt discussed the White House’s relationship with the media, including recent controversial moves like taking control of the press pool and barring the Associated Press from events over their refusal to refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America.”

Leavitt specifically named Huffington Post White House correspondent S.V. Dáte when calling out the press for not embracing the “fun” of the president. HuffPost slammed the White House this week for moving them out of the rotation for a press pool. HuffPost editor-in-chief Whitney Snyder called it an “extraordinary act of weakness.”

“There couldn’t be a less fun reporter to enjoy going to the Super Bowl on a Sunday with the president of the United States than S.V. Dáte,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt claimed this aversion to fun is what is driving the media to “obsess” over Trump’s relationship to DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) head Elon Musk. Musk joined Trump on Wednesday for his first cabinet meeting. Leavitt accused some media members of trying to drive a “wedge” between Trump and Musk.

“I think that’s something the press are having a hard time with. We are genuinely having so much fun, and this is why you’re seeing them obsess over Elon Musk and President Trump, and they’re trying so hard but failing to drive a wedge in that relationship because they love those sensational stories of trying to pin people against each other,” Leavitt said.

She added that Trump is “having the time of his life,” including at press conferences.

“As staff and the president himself is having the time of his life, I mean he loves doing these Oval Office press conferences,” she said.

Leavitt argued Trump’s changes to how the White House deals with the press, which has included opening up the press briefing rooms to podcast hosts and more, is part of the president’s “non-traditional media strategy,” which originated on the campaign trail.

Leavitt called Trump the “most accessible” president ever and insisted “legacy media” is not being pushed out the door.

“The legacy media is still in the briefing room,” she said. “I take questions from CNN just as much as I take questions from our great conservative friends who don’t have seats in that room, that have to stand on the sides for hours just to have a spot in there.”
