Kerry: Would Be ‘Highly Irresponsible’ for Congress to Break Apart Iran Deal

Secretary of State John Kerry talked about the Iran deal on CBS Evening News tonight. Margaret Brennan asked if it could be construed as a “political win” for Iran’s leadership, but Kerry dismissed that as just the narrative they’d be pushing.

He insisted that there’s a “whole new system” that they designed over the course of negotiations that Iran accepted so there won’t be issues with Iran clashing with nuke inspectors.

Brennan asked if new sanctions from Congress would “torpedo” the deal. Kerry called such a move “unnecessary” and said, “It would be highly irresponsible to simply break this apart by now stepping into the middle, when the measure of this agreement, I believe, can stand the test of scrutiny.”
