Kimmel and U.S. Olympian Reveal How They Pulled Off Wolf Hoax
Jimmy Kimmel revealed last night exactly how he pulled off the elaborate hoax that involved getting Olympian luger Kate Hansen to tweet a video of what looked like a wolf (it was) wandering the hallway outside her room in Sochi. Kimmel showed the video in question, explaining, “That was not a Russian wolf. That was an American wolf, and I know this because the wolf is backstage right now.”
Kimmel ran a montage of all the broadcast outlets that covered the supposed wolf infiltration before showing the full video, which ended with Kimmel skiing through the hallway, which was a replica of Hansen’s own hallway.
Kimmel then brought Hansen herself on, via Skype, and she said, “There was a little bit more backlash than I thought there would be.” Kimmel sardonically suggested the IOC read the part of the Constitution that protects freedom of expression, before revealing the extent to which they prepared for the prank.
Kimmel ended by awarding Hansen a pranking gold meal and asked if she would “consider bringing a live bear to the closing ceremonies” just for the hell of it.
