Larry Elder Conceded, But OAN Is Refusing to Report That Gavin Newsom Won in California

The special election in California is all over. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) successfully countered the attempt to recall him, right wing radio host and conservative frontrunner Larry Elder has conceded, and after a brief period where the governorship appeared in contention, the polls in Newsom’s favor seem to have panned out.

This has been an upsetting development for Newsom’s critics in conservative media, though if you’ve been watching One America News Network, you might have noticed their reluctance to outright say that the California election results have been decided.

Hours after Elder gave his concession speech, the right-wing news network ran Wednesday morning segments on the election that said “officials are finishing up the ballot count,” but no explicit mention of the outcome. This occurred even as the network ran clips from Elder’s address to supporters where he said “we may have lost the battle, but we are going to win the war.”

OAN’s Thomas McGrath narrated over a segment that acknowledged “the majority of precincts had reported their results Tuesday night.” Instead of delving into the meat of the results though, the segment focused on Elder’s political showmanship and criticisms of Newsom, which was underlined by the chyron “Elder: We’ve Got a State to Save.’ The closest McGrath came to touching on the results himself was when he said “although the race is over, the Republican couldn’t resist throwing some late jabs at his opponent.”
