Maher Explains His Controversial One Direction/Boston Bomber Joke to ‘Idiots’

Two weeks ago, Bill Maher made a joke that was only featured online about how Zayn Malik, that guy who left One Direction, looks a little like the Boston Marathon bomber. 1D fans went nuts, some people called Maher racist because Malik is Muslim, and Maher responded earlier today to the ridiculous intensity of the freakout.

But he wasn’t quite done with the PC mob yet, and did a bit on his show tonight called “Explaining Jokes to Idiots.”

Maher went step-by-step through the joke, explaining that he had no idea who Malik was, “nor do I give a shit.” He said the audience laughed at the joke because “they’re not idiots” and they understand humor and the joke is about how similar they look. And nothing else.
