Marsha Blackburn Calls Out Rep. Steve Cohen’s ‘Completely Inappropriate’ Wish She’d ‘Jump Off a Bridge’
Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) appeared on Fox & Friends today in order to hit back at Steve Cohen after the Democratic senator from her state said he wishes she’d throw herself off a bridge.
One week ago, reports indicated that Cohen joked about Blackburn’s support for President Trump when he spoke at a senate campaign event last month for former Gov. Phil Bredesen. Cohen attracted controversy when he suggested what lengths Blackburn would go to in order to prove her absolute obedience to Trump.
“He’s going to come down here and he is going to endorse Marsha Blackburn, because Marsha Blackburn, if he says, ‘Jump off the Harahan Bridge,’ she’ll jump off the Harahan Bridge,” Cohen said. “I wish he’d say that.”
When Blackburn was asked about this on Wednesday, she expressed disappointment in Bredesen for not condemning Cohen’s remarks. She also called out other people in Bredesen’s orbit who made “completely inappropriate” comments that Trump supporters like herself were “idiots and morons and said they weren’t worth the time.”
“Can’t we just agree to disagree and still get along and not say these types of comments,” Ainsley Earhardt asked the congresswoman. “Why all this vitriol? Why all the anger and hate and the threats?”
Blackburn’s response:
“You know, that is something that we deal with is the personal threats. I’ve had them. Other members have had them. There have been threats against our families and I do not know why there is such a level of vitriol. I don’t know if it is because people constantly are listening because of the divisiveness, what we need to realize is our nation and the cause of freedom has been well-served by a robust, respectful, two-party debate. That is what the people of Tennessee want to see. When we have all the bright shiny objects that become the story of the day with the news cycles and I will tell you, the people of Tennessee are not focused on the story of the day. What they are focused on are the is the story of their life.”
