Matt Schlapp, Antjuan Seawright Clash Over Kavanaugh: ‘Your Party Doesn’t Run the Senate Now!’
American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp and Democratic strategist Antjuan Seawright had a robust debate over the pending confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
Laura Ingraham began the segment by calling out the “ridiculous” attack that Kavanaugh himself referred to birth control at the confirmation hearing as “abortion-inducing drugs,” which despite having been debunked by Politifact and The Washington Post was further shared by Hillary Clinton.
I want to be sure we’re all clear about something that Brett Kavanaugh said in his confirmation hearings last week. He referred to birth-control pills as “abortion-inducing drugs.” That set off a lot of alarm bells for me, and it should for you, too.

While he wouldn’t say if Clinton “willfully mischaracterized” Kavanaugh, Seawright argued that some people have their “own way of interpreting things” and that the “general context” that both Clinton and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) had was that as a Supreme Court justice, he’d be “dangerous” for women’s rights.
Schlapp acknowledged that despite supporting Kavanaugh’s confirmation and personally wanting to overturn Roe v Wade, he has “no idea” what Kavanaugh would do on the Supreme Court and called to have a national discussion about it.
“But to act like Brett Kavanaugh said anything about his jurisprudence on birth control at the hearing is a lie,” Schlapp told Ingraham. “So when they go that far and they tweet it out and they make it seem so simple when it’s actually very complicated, I think they do a great disservice to all of us because I’d actually like to have meaty conversations about these constitutional questions. I think it would be good for America.”
Seawright pushed back about Schlapp wanting to have conversations since his party “would not give President Obama‘s nominee a hearing.”
“Yes, and it was a wonderful decision,” Schlapp said to Seawright. “I loved that decision.”
“Of course,” Seawright reacted. “And that is a prime example of hypocrisy at its best.”
“Your party doesn’t run the Senate now, Antjuan!” Schlapp shot back. “You don’t get to determine when the hearings are! We get to because the American people elected Republicans to run the Senate.”
