Media Matters President Talks Hannity Ad Boycott on CNN: He Does ‘Reckless Things’

Media Matters president Angelo Carusone appeared with CNN’s Brian Stelter this morning to talk about calling for an ad boycott against Sean Hannity‘s show and how Hannity has responded to it.

When Stelter asked if he thinks it’s appropriate to “take away” any commentator’s advertisers, Carusone actually said he doesn’t, but explained, “At some point, you are forced to do it.”

“No other network,” he argued, “would let their personalities go out there and do the kinds of destructive and reckless things that Sean Hannity does.”

Carusone claimed the boycott has been effective so far, especially considering how Hannity is “complaining about it.”

Stelter brought up a statement from a Fox News spokesperson saying, in response, “This intimidation effort is nothing more than political opportunism based on deceit. Sean Hannity hosts the number one program in cable news because millions of Americans make the decision to join him every night and the audience relationship is stronger than ever.”

In the past few days, and especially this morning, Hannity has been rather vocal in calling out Carusone and Media Matters:

Stelter asked Carusone about all this. Carusone said attacks like those are “hurtful” and a “ridiculous jab at me in the most personal way.”

He said he hasn’t been invited on Hannity’s show, but even if he was invited, he wouldn’t agree because, as Carusone put it, “I wouldn’t want to actually elevate that show by appearing on it.”

Hannity tweeted in response to the segment:
