Michael Caputo and Chris Cuomo Battle It Out Over Manafort Indictments: ‘You Don’t Know That’
On Friday, former aide to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign Michael Caputo weighed in on Paul Manafort‘s latest legal woes and in the indictment of his former associate Konstantin V. Kilimnik.
The New York Times reported on Manafort’s latest charges earlier today:
After months of oblique references to an unnamed Russian associate of Paul Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign chairman, the special counsel identified the associate on Friday and charged both men with obstruction of justice.
The associate, Konstantin V. Kilimnik, is a Russian Army-trained linguist prosecutors have accused of having ties to Russian intelligence.
In response, CNN host Chris Cuomo asked Caputo his thoughts on Manafort, who served as President Donald Trump‘s campaign chair.
The talk quickly became a battle of what Caputo “knows” versus what he “believes” when it comes to the Trump campaign’s collusion with Russia and the Manafort indictments.
“I don’t believe — I think Paul [Manafort] ‘s stuck in a bad spot just like Papadopoulos is stuck a bad spot some of the other guys. They don’t have anything to give,” Caputo replied.
“You don’t know that,” Cuomo replied.
“I don’t believe they do because I was on the inside,” Caputo continued on, still trying to make his case.
“Then say it that way,” Cuomo said, encouraging him to distinguish his feelings from facts. “Words matter. And when you don’t fuel up the misperception of known fact with how you feel…you are free to have feelings, you are free to come on and state them.”
“But we also know at this point we know of no evidence of collusion between the trump campaign and Russia,” Caputo pressed on.
Cuomo then pointed out that the latest Manafort indictments are the “20th set of indictments” making Caputo’s claim only true because not everything has been divulged yet.
The fireworks continued from there.
