Michael Smerconish Kicks Off CNN Show by Railing Against Partisan Cable News
Newly minted CNN host Michael Smerconish kicked off his show Saturday morning by railing against how much cable news has contributed to the increasingly polarized nature of political debate in Washington. He likened D.C. politics to pro wrestling, where “there are good guys and there are bad guys, every battle is good versus evil, the sides are predetermined, and every fight is choreographed.”
He warned that media infotainment “comes with a price” and sets a bad tone for public discourse, linking the rise of cable news and polarized media to the “unprecedented polarization” in the halls of Congress.
Smerconish added, “Too many elected officials are taking their cues from broadcasters who should be wearing wrestling tights.”
