‘Miracle on the Hudson’ Pilot Sully Sullenberger Gives Blunt Response To Trump’s DEI Talk Over DC Crash: ‘Disgusted’
Retired pilot Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger has been making the media rounds giving his take on the Washington, D.C. plane crash that led to dozens of deaths, and one of those appearances included a blunt message for President Donald Trump.
The president has received pushback from critics for pointing to DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) policies for a military helicopter and civilian plane colliding this week before facts about the crash were publicly known. There were no survivors from the crash, which claimed the lives of more than 60.
Trump signed a memo targeting DEI policies following the crash, though the reason for the collision is still not known.
Sullenberger joined MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell this week to discuss the investigation and aviation safety. Sullenberger is an expert in the field and best known for what became known as the “Miracle on the Hudson,” in which Sullenberger safely landed a plane in the Hudson River in 2009 after losing engine power. All 155 people onboard were rescued.
Sullenberger said he has faith in authorities who have recovered the black boxes from both DC aircrafts investigating the matter and said it will take “old fashioned detective work” to get to the bottom of what caused the crash.
Sullenberger mostly stays clear of politics, but he offered a response to the president after O’Donnell asked him to weigh in. After a long bit of silence, the pilot simply said he was “not surprised,” but also “disgusted.”
“I don’t want to draw you into politics, but if you have a reaction to what the president said today about this, please share it with us,” O’Donnell said.
“Not surprised,” Sullenberger responded. “Disgusted.”
