Reps. Nancy Pelosi, Paul Ryan and James Clyburn: ‘Conyers Should Resign’ (UPDATED)

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday called on Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) to resign in a press conference, as the congressman finds himself engulfed in a sexual harassment scandal.

“The allegations against Congressman Conyers, as we have learned more since Sunday, are serious, disappointing and very credible,” Pelosi told reporters. “It’s very sad. The brave women that came forward are owed justice. I pray for Congressman Conyers and his family, and wish them well.”

“However, Congressman Conyers should resign,” she added.

Pelosi’s statement comes less than a week after her trainwreck interview on Sunday in which she called Conyers an “icon in our country” and defended his track record on women’s issues — comments she was widely panned for.

“Zero tolerance means consequences,” said Pelosi in her Thursday presser.

Earlier Thursday morning, 88-year-old Conyers was hospitalized in Detroit for a stress-related illness.

UPDATE: 12:10 p.m. EST: In addition to Pelosi, Speaker Paul Ryan and Rep. James Clyburn have also piled on Conyers, asking him to resign.
