NBC’s Brian Williams Incorrectly Claims George Zimmerman Jury Is ‘All White’ (UPDATED)

During his report tonight on the final arguments in the George Zimmerman murder trial, NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams mistakenly described the jury as “all women and all white.” Only one of those two labels is correct.

The jury is indeed all female, but five of the jurors are white. One of them, labeled on NBCNews.com as Juror B-29, is referred to as “either black or Hispanic.”

UPDATE: After a report on the trial proceedings, Williams issued a brief correction, clarifying that it’s a “jury of six, five of them white.”

However, the fact that the majority of the jurors are white has still been of particular note, with MSNBC’s Al Sharpton and Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump asking last month whether a mostly-white jury can dole out “equal justice.” A reporter for the Associated Press noted today that one of the jurors “appeared to be wiping away a tear” during final closing arguments from the prosecution.
