New Cast Member Sasheer Zamata Makes SNL Debut in Musical Form

New SNL cast member Sasheer Zamata made her debut Saturday night in a musical sketch lampooning everyone’s short-lived New Year’s resolutions.

Zamata sang the hook to the song, “Resolution Revolution,” while cast members Taran Killam, Jay Pharoah, and host Drake struggled with their respective addictions: fatty foods, sex dolls, and alcohol.

A few sketches before this one, Zamata appeared as Rihanna in a humorous reimagination of the previous careers of various hip-hop stars.

Zamata was hired earlier this month as part of SNL‘s response to a 2013 controversy over its lack of black female cast members. She has trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade theater in New York City, and is the first black female SNL-er since Maya Rudolph left the show in 2007.
