Newsmax Host Confronts James Comer About Disastrous Interview With CNN’s Jake Tapper: ‘He’s Trying to Make You Look Like a Joke’
Rep. James Comer (R-KY) defended last Friday’s disastrous interview with Jake Tapper during a Monday morning appearance on Newsmax. He admitted that, while the CNN anchor is very smart, he’s trying to appeal to a “low IQ audience.”
Comer deserves credit for appearing on The Lead, the full interview of which is must-see TV for anyone interested in quality political media. Tapper threaded a seemingly impossible needle of politely ridiculing his guest while also taking his allegations seriously — or giving Comer enough rope to hang himself.
Comer joined Newsmax host Rob Finnerty, who played a brief clip of the Comer-Tapper exchange in which the House Oversight Committee chair claimed that recent indictments against Hunter Biden were done “to protect him from the public.” Tapper replied in a mocking tone, “Yes. The House Oversight Committee indicted him to protect him. Yes. The classic rubric. He indicted him to protect him. I got it.”
“You see what happened there?” Finnerty asked. “He’s he’s making your investigation sound like a joke, and he’s trying to make you look like a joke. And then half of America sees that, and they think your investigation is a joke. How do you work around that? How do you work through that? ”
“Well, that’s the first time I went on CNN in three months. We thought we would give it a try,” Comer replied. “You know, Jake Tapper is an intelligent guy, but he’s playing to a low IQ audience. You know, CNN just is hemorrhaging viewers every day. And Jake’s doing what he’s told by his bosses at CNN, who are doing what they’re told by their bosses, the Democratic National Committee. I mean, CNN is a wholly owned, unprofitable subsidiary of the Democratic National Committee.”
ZING! Finnerty did not challenge Comer’s false and clearly hyperbolic explanation that CNN is a “wholly owned, unprofitable subsidiary of the Democratic National Committee.”
