NY Protests Carry On Despite de Blasio Calling for Moratorium

Protests continued in New York today despite Mayor Bill de Blasio calling for a moratorium on protests until after the funerals of the two slain NYPD officers. The mayor asked everyone to “put aside protest” for the time being.

This request was flat-out rejected by Al Sharpton, who called it an “ill-defined request” and said he still plans to hold prayer vigils within the next few days.

CNN’s Miguel Marquez walked with the protesters tonight (several hundred, staying to sidewalks), and explained that they’re not heeding the mayor’s request because “they want the mayor to stand up for what they believe are their First Amendment rights to protest and to send this message to power, to the government, that they want change.”
