NY1 Reporter Describes Altercation with Rep. Grimm: ‘Angrier Than I’ve Ever Seen a Politician’
NY1 Washington reporter Michael Scotto spoke to Morning Joe about his altercation with Representative Michael Grimm (R-NY) after last night’s State of the Union, in which Grimm reacted angrily to Scotto’s question about corruption allegations and threatened to throw the reporter off the rotunda balcony (he phrased a bit differently).
“I’m used to people giving me pushback for questions, but I was not used to something like that,” Scotto said, adding that Grimm was “angrier than I have ever seen a politician talk to a reporter about a question that he or she didn’t like.”
Scotto said NY1 had been trying to get Grimm on-record about the campaign finance allegations for weeks, and catching the congressman after the address seemed like the perfect opportunity. He affirmed that for all his bluster Grimm never actually touched him.
Co-host Mika Brzezinski asked if Scotto was going to follow up legally. “It seems almost actionable,” she said.
“No, I’m going to leave it as is,” Scotto said. “I think the tape speaks for itself.”
