‘Oh No, Where Are You Going?’ Kevin McCarthy Recalls Initial Reaction to Trump’s Comments About Kamala Harris

Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy said he did not know what former President Donald Trump was getting at when he falsely said Vice President Kamala Harris only recently “became Black.”

In an appearance in front of the National Association of Black Journalists on Wednesday, Trump claimed of Harris, “I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black.”

Born in Oakland, California, Harris is of Jamaican and Indian descent.

Even some conservatives panned Trump’s performance, with one saying “he did crap the bed” at the event.

Appearing on Thursday’s Jesse Watters Primetime on Fox News, McCarthy was asked to weigh in.

“When you saw that at yesterday’s Black journalist convention, did you think he’s gonna lose votes because of that?” Jesse Watters asked. “Or do you think [it’s] one of these things that’s gonna blow over in a few days and it’s back to the races?”

“Well, at first I go, ‘Oh no, where are you going?'” McCarthy recalled before giving credit to Trump for showing up at the event. “But when you say to look at it, Kamala was invited and she didn’t show. He will go anywhere. And the great thing about President Trump is he’s the same person in the front than he is behind. And he’ll tell it exactly how he sees it.”

Trump has since doubled down on his remarks by sharing a post by right-wing conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer, who said that Harris cannot be Black because “Black” does not appear on her birth certificate.
