Paul Ryan: ‘We’re Not Losing Votes, We’re Adding Votes’ on Health Care Bill

Speaker Paul Ryan appeared on Fox News this afternoon amid the continued behind-the-scenes drama over whether Republicans have enough votes to get the American Health Care Act passed in the House tomorrow.

Dana Perino brought up how while the plan is to vote on the Obamacare repeal-and-replace plan tomorrow, the House Freedom Caucus said today that the votes simply aren’t there. One member even said there are “more noes today” than there were yesterday:

Ryan insisted that the House is getting “a lot of Freedom Caucus members to support this bill,” saying that “we feel pretty good” about keeping the promise Republicans made about repealing Obamacare.

Perino asked Ryan if he would postpone the vote if they don’t have the right number needed by tomorrow. Ryan said with confidence, “We’re adding votes by the day. We’re not losing votes, we’re adding votes, and we feel like we’re getting really close.”

He said dealing with the rules of the Senate is what’s “frustrating” to him and many other members of the House in trying to get this passed.
