Playful Jeopardy! Banter Takes an Incredibly Awkward Turn…
The Jeopardy! banter often consists of Alex Trebek asking light, fun questions while contestants giggle and talk about their lives and passions and such. Well, last night things took a decidedly awkward turn when Trebek got to the final contestant and the issue of sweatshop labor came up.
You see, Tom plans to use money he wins on Jeopardy! to fund a documentary about sweatshop labor around the world. Trebek asked him about this, and Tom said he wants to put a face to the people making many of the clothes Americans wear, and added, “Maybe you can find out the names of the 8 year olds who made your fancy suit there, Alex.”
Tom quickly tried to salvage the moment with a joke, but that didn’t stop the audience from ooh-ing and Trebek making a sarcastic threat before moving on.
