‘President Trump Has Something to Crow About’: CNN Anchor Marvels at Strong Jobs Report

President Donald Trump has “something to crow about,” CNN anchor Sara Sidner declared after seeing the jobs report for June.

CNN senior reporter Matt Egan joined Sidner on Thursday to break down the latest economic numbers, which included 147,000 jobs being added to the economy in June and an unemployment rate sitting at 4.1%.

“This jobs market is like the energizer bunny. Every single time we expect it to run out of steam, it just keeps going and going,” Egan said, noting that most predictions had about 118,000 jobs being added to the economy for June.

He added, “We were also expecting a slowdown. We did not get that. This is basically in line with May, which was revised higher. That’s also good news. The unemployment rate was expected to go up. It didn’t. It went down to 4.1%. That is a very healthy number. This still relatively historically low. And again, it’s below the 4.3% that we had expected.”

Many of the job gains for June were in the healthcare and social assistance field, which added 59,000 positions. Leisure and hospitality also added 20,000. There were losses in manufacturing and federal jobs, the latter of which Egan chalked up to cuts made by DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency).

Egan noted that thousands of jobs being lost in manufacturing is the “opposite” of what the president wants as his tariff policies have been meant to boost domestic manufacturing.

“But, still, big picture when you put it all together, this is a lot better than expected and it does suggest that this jobs market is holding out better than feared,” Egan said.

“Yeah, barring the manufacturing, President Trump has something to crow about,” Sidner added. “He has something to talk about because it is a lot better than expected. We’re talking, what, 30,000, 40,000 more jobs than expected, roughly.”
