Report: Katie Couric ‘Talking’ To ABC

Could CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric find a new home at ABC when her contract with CBS expires this summer? The New York Post‘s Michael Shain quotes unnamed sources who say Couric’s been “quietly meeting with ABC,” including a get together last month with recently-named ABC News president Ben Sherwood. Shain’s sources describe the meetings as an effort by ABC to “kick the tires” and see if there’s an option that would work for both Couric and the network.

According to the Post story, Couric’s spokesman declined to comment on the story, and an ABC rep confirmed that Sherwood “has been meeting with a lot of people across the TV industry to talk about where journalism is headed.”

Whether there’s room at ABC for Couric is unclear:

The former “Today” show host has said she isn’t interested in returning to morning TV, and neither “20/20” nor “Nightline” offer the same daily, high-profile exposure needed to justify her hefty salary.
