S.E. Cupp Rips Rep. Omar’s Latest Israel Comments: Are We Going ‘to Keep Blaming Naiveté for Her Anti-Semitic Remarks?’

CNN’S S.E. Cupp is not willing to chalk up Rep. Ilhan Omar latest controversial remarks to sheer naiveté.

Instead, according to Cupp, she is starting to think the freshman Congresswoman believes the controversial things she is saying about Israel.

This week, Omar questioned during a bookstore event why it is “okay for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country.” She was referring to American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).  Omar also wondered aloud why it was not okay to criticize such groups like AIPAC when criticizing the NRA was fine.

Omar’s comment sparked backlash and Rep. Eliot Engel, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, asked her to apologize.

It is also not the first time Omar has said something that caused controversy or prompted her fellow Democrats to respond.

“It’s been a whole 15 days since Congresswoman Ilhan Omar last got a finger wag from her Democratic colleagues over anti-semitism,” Cupp said on Saturday, noting Omar has done it before. “It was a good run. But she’s back at it.”

Cupp continued on: “This time she remarked Israel, ‘I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it’s okay to push for allegiance to a foreign country.’ The implication here, of course, was that pro-Israel groups are pushing allegiance to a foreign country feeding into ugly stereotypes about the influence of Jews in this country. Omar’s spokesman said the comments were about the influence of lobbyists.”

Cupp then said this, casting doubt that the Congresswoman’s comments were simply naive gaffes: “Fool me once, fool me twice we’re way beyond all that with Omar. Are we all just going to keep blaming naivete for her anti-semitic remarks? Because I am beginning to believe she just believes this stuff.”
