Scarborough on McKinney: ‘Who Trains These Cops?’

Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough, who has previously defended the actions of police when involved in conflicts with unarmed individuals, could find no justification for the behavior of a McKinney police officer filmed manhandling a teenager at a Texas pool party.

Scarborough said that a suspect could be concealing a weapon beneath their clothes, at which point police officers have a right to use force. “But here, she was in a bathing suit,” he said. “This is just outrageous. Who trains these cops?”

Former RNC chair Michael Steele tried to empathize, asking what cops were supposed to do if people didn’t respond to their orders.

“If they’re teenagers, and they’re wearing bathing suits, I can tell you what you don’t do,” Scarborough answered. “You don’t pull a gun.”
