Schieffer: Jordan Fights ISIS While Obama Goes to Fundraiser, Congress Goes on Vacation
Face the Nation anchor Bob Schieffer on Sunday morning questioned the U.S.’s readiness to fight ISIS. He said that while President Barack Obama goes to California for a fundraiser and Congress goes on vacation, Jordanian King Abdullah II ordered the execution of two prisoners, put on a military uniform, and launched bombing operations against ISIS.
“We have another American hostage killed, and Congress and the president — the president goes off to California to do a fundraiser and some other stuff, and the Congress goes on vacation and they say, ‘yeah, we’ll debate what to do about all this, but we’re gonna do it as long as it fits into the schedule, there’s no reason to do anything out of the ordinary,'” Schieffer said, while prefacing he does not want to see President Obama put on a military uniform.
Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic noted that “the King of Jordan is the leader of a country named after his family, so it’s a little bit of a different situation.”
