Sen. Susan Collins: Trump Has Failed to Show ‘Common Decency’

Susan Collins, one of a few Republican senators refusing to back Donald Trump, trashed Trump on Face the Nation this morning on the basis of his nasty character.

Collins told John Dickerson that she was disgusted by Trump attacking the Khans and said she couldn’t bring herself to support him after he’s shown a lack of temperament, knowledge, and self-control.

She acknowledged that people like Trump’s blunt, politically incorrect style, but said, “There’s a big difference between that and treating people with respect and common decency, and there’s where, in my judgment, Donald Trump has failed.”

Collins hoped Trump would pivot, but she came to realize that there was no stopping the “constant barrage of ill-informed and cruel comments.”
