Simpsons Producer: Yeah, We Totally Called the Syrian Civil War
Last week brought an Egyptian news station’s amazing theory that an episode of The Simpsons from the deteriorating but still-salvageable twelfth season was part of a geopolitical conspiracy that instigated the Syrian Civil War, based on the similarity of the Syrian opposition’s flag to that of the fictional Middle Eastern soldiers bombed in “New Kids on the Blecch.” (Maybe it sounded better in their heads.)

Anyhoo, Mother Jones’ Asawin Suebsaeng reached out to Simpsons executive producer Al Jean for confirmation. Jean replied:
Yes, we had the amazing foresight to predict conflict in the Middle East.
In case you couldn’t tell, he was being sarcastic.
This, by the by, is the second instance in the past month of life imitating The Simpsons.
