Ted Cruz Serves Up Cringe Cocktails at CPAC: Inflation ‘Is So Bad, Eric Swalwell Can’t Afford Chinese Dinners’

Podcaster and U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) spoke at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Dallas where he rehashed some old jokes of his that were just as nonsensical the second time around.

Speaking on inflation, Cruz wanted the audience to know just how bad price hikes in the U.S. have gotten.

While Cruz got some laughs, his jokes landed with all the elegance of the Hindenburg touching down in New Jersey.

“If you look at what’s happening in Washington, everything is going wrong,” Cruz said. “We got out-of-control inflation. The cost of everything is going through the roof. The cost of food, through the roof. The cost of electricity, through the roof. The cost of healthcare, through the roof. The cost of gasoline, through the roof.”

In quick succession, Cruz rattled off three jokes, none of which made sense.

“It’s so bad, Antifa can’t afford bricks,” he told the crowd.

On the surface, it’s easy to understand why this joke might be funny, but there’s the pesky and nonsensical imagery of member of Antifa actually purchasing bricks whose ultimate purpose is to be used in the commission of crimes. Indeed, one is hard pressed to imagine a lefty radical bent on committing mayhem walking into a Home Depot intent on purchasing bricks only to leave despondent after finding out they are too expensive.

“It is so bad, Eric Swalwell can’t afford Chinese dinners,” Cruz continued.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), of course, was associated with alleged spy Christine Fang, a.k.a, “Fang Fang.” Fang successfully ingrained herself among some California politicians before she ultimately fled to China. The congressman has refused to say whether his relationship with Fang was romantic in nature.

Clearly, Cruz’s joke is an allusion to Fang, but where do “Chinese dinners” fit in here, exactly? Is the implication Swalwell was fond of taking her to Chinese restaurants? Or is “dinners” a euphemism for “spies” here, as in, he can’t afford to date Chinese spies?

“It is so bad, it is so bad, that AOC can’t afford fake handcuffs,” Cruz stated, delivering his last joke in this genre.

Last month, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was arrested at a pro-choice demonstration in Washington, D.C. Though she was not handcuffed, she momentarily placed her hands behind her back as if she had been.

So, the real “issue” here is that Ocasio-Cortez “can’t afford” real handcuffs, not fake ones.

The worst part – other than the fact I’ve written 400 words about this – is the fact that Cruz recycled two of the jokes from a speech he delivered to the Texas GOP Convention in June.
