‘That Does Bother Me’: Jeffrey Lord Breaks With Donald Trump on Libel Laws
CNN’s resident Trump supporter, Jeffrey Lord, made it known on Monday that he opposes any effort by the Trump administration to change libel laws.
“I confess, as a First Amendment freak, that does bother me a bit,” Lord revealed on CNN’s New Day.
Anchor Chris Cuomo asked the CNN regular for his reaction to Reince Priebus revealing on ABC’s This Week on Sunday that the White House “looked at” such changes. Lord said he talked to Trump about the issue “long before he was running for president.”
Lord underlined that “we have to be careful here when we deal with the First Amendment.”
The American Spectator editor also targeted the speakers at the White House Correspondents Dinner on Saturday for not addressing the controversy surrounding Ann Coulter‘s cancelled speech at the University of California, Berkeley.
“People at that dinner…made a great deal about the First Amendment. But I didn’t hear the words ‘Ann Coulter’ anywhere at that dinner. And here she was under physical threat from giving a speech at Berkeley. I mean, that was a pretty noticeable problem, I thought, and there were others. I didn’t hear the names of other conservatives who have been attacked here and threatened. So, I think that we’ve got it work on that.”
