The Daily Show Tackles VA Governor’s Race: Between ‘Pond Scum’ and ‘Dog Poop’

The Daily Show checked in on some local races Monday night, and in particular set its sights on the Virginia gubernatorial race. The race between Ken Cuccinelli and Terry McAuliffe has inspired many reactions like “Why?” and “Really?” and “Oh, come on,” and so correspondent Al Madrigal attempted to get to the bottom of why these candidates are so truly, utterly horrible.

Professor Larry Sabato explained to Madrigal that people hate Cuccinelli because they view him as a radical, far-right winger, while McAuliffe is particularly loathed because people view him as too sleazy. And the fact that he bragged about attending a political fundraiser the night his wife gave birth didn’t exactly do much to downplay that image.

At first, Madrigal thought they were just “run-of-the-mill jerk-off politicians” before watching them in action and realizing “holy shit, this is a nightmare.”

He went around Virginia trying to find out who people would rather go for if given the choice between pond scum and dog poop.
