The Simpsons Paid Tribute to Charlie Hebdo Tonight

While George Clooney and others stood firm with Charlie Hebdo during tonight’s Golden Globes, The Simpsons paid tribute to the French satirical magazine that lost 10 of its staffers during last week’s massacre in Paris.

Before beginning the half-hour’s final commercial break, the animated show featured a silent clip of Maggie Simpson carrying a tattered “Je Suis Charlie” banner, reminiscent of French artwork like Eugène Delacroix‘s Liberty Leading the People.

Also noteworthy was that this aired during the episode “Bart’s Best Friend,” written by Judd Apatow a whopping 24 years ago before finally making it to air.
