Tim Robbins: Bernie Sanders Speaks to Same ‘Anger and Resentment’ As Trump
Actor and activist Tim Robbins has already been an outspoken and controversial advocate for independent Vermont Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, and on Wednesday, engaged in what could be considered dubious salesmanship by many Democratic voters. In an unrelated interview with MSNBC’s Tamron Hall, Robbins was asked to comment on concerns that the Democratic Party may have trouble uniting after the nominating process is complete. Rather than discuss the possibility of voters uniting around either possible nominee, Robbins pitched Sanders as an appealing alternative for Donald Trump supporters:
There’s something that’s happened since this primary process started, and what has happened is that a candidate has emerged that is speaking to a lot of the anger and resentment and frustration that Trump supporters seem to have.
Robbins didn’t get specific about that “anger and resentment,” but to most Democratic primary voters, particularly voters of color, those resentments are crystal clear. With Sanders losing support among even some younger black voters, and heading into the all-important and very diverse electorate of the California primary, this might be the wrong time for Sanders surrogates to start openly pitching angry white voters.
