Time Warner Cable Loses a Record 825,000 Subscribers After Pointless Feud with CBS

Remember that time last year where Time Warner Cable kicked CBS and its affiliate channels out of its club in a childish fit of rage? To recap: once upon a time, CBS had a big ol’ basket of content (like Showtime and NFL Football) that TWC would air, but then CBS was like, “Uh, we’d like to get $2 per subscriber instead of $1 and also retain the rights to put How I Met Your Mother on Netflix and stuff.” In response, TWC flipped out and refused to air CBS content, which is the adult thing to do.

In any case, it appears that TWC is paying for their rash business decision: Bloomberg News reports today that TWC lost a record number of cable subscribers in 2013 — 825,000 out of nearly 12 million subscribers — with the bulk of their losses occurring during and after the CBS blackout.

In other news, cable provider Comcast apparently added new TV subscribers in the past year, which can potentially be read as a giant “In your face!” to TWC.
