Trump Announces, ‘We’re Gonna Send Some More Weapons’ to Ukraine: ‘We Have To’

President Donald Trump announced his administration would send more weapons to Ukraine on Monday as the country continues to get “hit very hard” by Russia.

Asked by a reporter, “Are you planning on sending more weapons to Ukraine?” Trump replied, “We’re gonna send some more weapons. We have to. They have to be able to defend themselves.”

He added, “They’re getting hit very hard now. They’re getting hit very hard. We’re gonna have to send more weapons. You have defensive weapons primarily, but they’re getting hit very, very hard. So many people are dying in that mess.”

The president made his announcement less than 30 minutes after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump told reporters on Thursday evening he was “very disappointed” with Russian President Vladimir Putin following a phone call with his Russian counterpart.

“I’m very disappointed with the conversation I had today with President Putin, because I don’t think he’s there,” said Trump. “And I’m very disappointed. I’m just saying I don’t think he’s looking to stop, and that’s too bad.”

Following their phone call, during which Trump reportedly urged a ceasefire, Putin launched one of Russia’s largest attacks on Ukraine yet.

The Wall Street Journal editorial board accused Trump of displaying “weakness” towards Russia by “denying Ukraine much-needed weapons” last week.

“Our sources tell us they include Patriot air-defense missiles, Hellfire missiles, some 8,500 Howitzer rounds and other ammunition,” wrote the editorial board. “Some were already in Poland awaiting delivery. So this is a conscious decision to deny Kyiv weapons it was counting on before Russia’s summer assaults. It’s a hostile act that favors Vladimir Putin.”
