Trump Celebrates Massive Media Coverage Opposite Debate: ‘Like the Academy Awards!’
While Fox News is carrying the Republican debate this evening, GOP frontrunner Donald Trump is defiantly holding his own event across town to raise money for the veterans and Wounded Warriors.
He opened his statements by celebrating the massive media coverage of his own event versus that of the actual RNC sanctioned debate by proudly declaring, “This is like the Academy Awards!”
Trump motioned to the line of media personnel and cameras that were carrying his event from Drake University. “We’re actually told that we have more cameras than they do by quite a bit,” the real estate mogul said casually to the cheering crowd.
Trump has long taken credit for the record-setting debate numbers that cable news networks have brought in during the campaign season; he has threatened that his voluntary withdrawal could result in Fox News taking a hit tonight in this arena. Both CNN and MSNBC carried the first twenty minutes or so of Trump’s address opposite Fox’s debate, which Trump admitted to the crowd he had scheduled to begin shortly after the start of the Fox event. Trump joked with the crowd, “Fox has been extremely nice the last number of hours.”
