Trump Denies Prices Are Rising, Says Inflation Talk Is ‘A Con Job by the Democrats’

President Donald Trump claimed that “costs are way down” and dismissed talk of rising prices as “a con job by the Democrats.”

Trump sat for an interview with Fox News’s Laura Ingraham on Monday’s edition of The Ingraham Angle, where the host noted that voters in last week’s elections in New Jersey, New York, and Virginia said that the economy is their top concern. Republicans lost badly in the governor’s races in New Jersey and Virginia, and New Yorkers elected a democratic socialist as mayor. Ingraham pointed to the rising costs of beef, coffee, and auto repairs.

“Is this a voter perception issue of the economy, or is there more that needs to be done by Republicans on Capitol Hill, or done in terms of policy?” she asked.

“More than anything else, it’s a con job by the Democrats,” Trump replied before alleging that news networks take their cues from Democrats. He also made some head-scratching remarks about the word ‘manufactured’ in newscasts.

“They put out something, ‘Say today, the costs are up,'” the president continued. “They feed it to the anchors of ABC, CBS, and NBC, and a lot of other, CNN et etc. It’s like a standard– I’ll never forget they used a word like ‘manufactured.’ Do you remember the word manufactured? ‘It’s a manufactured economy.’ Nobody uses that word. Every anchor broke in, ‘Manufactured.’ They do exactly what they say.”

He then complained about “a rigged system” before returning to rising prices.

“So, are you ready? Costs are way down,” he insisted. “Gasoline is gonna be hitting $2 pretty soon, or around $2. Gasoline is at $2.70 now.”

The average price of a gallon of gas in the U.S. is $3.07, as of this writing.

“When gasoline comes down, when energy comes down – and everybody agrees energy’s down [sic] – we’ve drilled, you know, drill baby, drill. We’re going like, wild. We produced more gasoline, oil, and gasoline in the last month than we ever have before.”

Ingraham followed up by asking, “So, you’re saying that voters are misperceiving how they feel?”

Trump responded by ranting about “Biden and Kamala” in the 2024 election and went on to complain about the 60 Minutes interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris, over which he sued CBS News.
