Two GOP Congressmen Propose $1M Bounty for Lost IRS Lois Lerner Emails

On Friday, Texas Republican Reps. Louie Gohmert and Bill Flores introduced a proposed $1 million prize for whoever can locate the lost emails of former IRS official Lois Lerner.

Those emails have become the subject of great controversy in D.C. over the last several weeks, with the House Ways and Means Committee repeatedly grilling current IRS head John Koskinen over whether the emails were lost as part of a cover-up, technical incompetence at the agency, or other reasons.

The bill, dubbed the Identify and Recover Sent Emails Act — or the “IRS Act” — offers a $1 million bounty in addition to a $500,000 reward for information that could incriminate agency officials for any deliberate destruction of the emails in question.

Other noteworthy parts of the proposal: Prize money would be taken directly from the IRS budget, and all IRS salaries would be cut by 20 percent until the emails are found. So, yeah, we’re going to suggest this bill is just for show.
