Univision Dominates Obama Immigration Speech Ratings

President Barack Obama’s speech outlining his executive action on immigration may not have been shown on the big broadcast networks, but it did air on one network that mattered in a big way for the president: Univision.

The country’s most popular Spanish-language channel pushed back the start of the Latin Grammy Awards 15 minutes to accommodate Obama’s address and 4.8 million total viewers ended up tuning in to watch it. That is more than chose to watch the speech on Fox News, CNN or MSNBC.

Fox News was not too far behind Univision with 4.153M viewers during the 8 p.m. hour when Obama delivered his speech. On MSNBC, the president’s 15 minute speech had 1.763M viewers while the following coverage had 1.452M. CNN averaged 1.652M for the 8 p.m. hour.

But overall, none of the big three cable news networks could compete with Univision, which has to be seen as not only a victory for that channel but also for the White House.
