Valerie Jarrett Commends NBA’s ‘Bold Move’ on Sterling

Speaking on behalf of the Obama Administration Wednesday, Senior Advisor to the President Valerie Jarrett told Fusion host Jorge Ramos that the White House strongly supports the “bold move” made by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to ban L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling from the league for life and fine him $2.5 million.
Asked by Ramos if President Barack Obama would use the Sterling case to speak more broadly about race relations in America, Jarrett pointed to comments the president already made on the issue over the weekend. “He said at the time that he thought Adam Silver was a good man and he would take action,” she said, “and in fact he did and we strongly support the quick and decisive move by Adam.”
“I think it sends a message not only throughout the NBA, to the people who are players, but the folks who come to watch the games, and to the private sector in general about what’s acceptable behavior in this country and what is not acceptable,” Jarret continued. “We commend Adam Silver for his bold move.”
In case that was not clear enough, Ramos asked Jarrett once more if she thinks Silver “did the right thing.”
“Yes,” she answered.
